Here are some photos that I took between October 1 and October 7, 2007 while traveling through Entebbe and staying in Kampala, Uganda. I was there to visit a friend and to help them solve some computer problems while investigating what life was like in one of East Africa's most prosperous countries.

Boda-boda Drivers

Boda-boda drivers are taxi drivers on motorcycles. They are an economic alternative to the "automotive" taxi.

Armed Guards

Armed guards are a normal part of Ugandan life. Every business employs them. From gas stations and hotels to shopping malls. The more profitable the business, the deadlier the weapons. Guards for a small business may carry single shot, bolt action rifle. The average security guard will carry a "street-sweeper" style shotgun that features a pistol grip and holds 5 rounds or more in the magazine (see photos). The guards at Standard Chartered Bank on Nile Avenue wear body armour and carry AK-47s.

The Sign Painter

Because electric signs are expensive and blackouts are frequent, a good sign painter can stay very busy in Kampala.

Evangelist on
Entebbe Road

To "win" souls and convert the many muslims to christ, this street evangelist stood in the middle of one of Kampala's busiest intersections with no traffic lights.
